The third annual "Sip and Spell: A Spelling Bee for Adults," a fundraiser for the Friends of the Corvallis-Benton County Public Library, is set for 7 p.m. Saturday at the Whiteside Theater, 361 S.W. Madison Ave. in downtown Corvallis.
The event invites adults 18 and older to test their spelling skills in a bee where the words get harder with each successive round. The last speller standing will win prizes.
Participants may register on the day of the event between 5:30 p.m. and 6:45 p.m. at the Whiteside Theatre. Registration is limited to the first 85 registrants. Participants will pay a $5 registration with cash, check or credit card during the registration period and can pay extra for various "cheats" that could useful on a particularly tricky word.
The event is is free to watch, so all are welcome to sit on the sidelines to cheer and heckle.
Food by Cafe Yumm and drinks will be available for purchase.
Mike McInally, the editor of the Gazette-Times, returns as the bee's emcee.
