Flora A. Vetter, 93, of Albany, died Thursday at Albany General Hospital.
She was born in Salem, the third of six children born to George and Mathilda (Schaefer) Engel.
The family moved to Albany when she was a young child. She attended Price Elementary School, and Immanuel Lutheran Parochial School. She learned to work hard on the family farm.
She married Fred G. Vetter on Nov. 22, 1936, at Immanuel Lutheran Church.
They bought a 25-acre farm at Oak Grove Corner, which now is part of North Albany on Scenic Drive. She worked parttime at Stokley Van Camp cannery in the late 1950s, going full time after her husband died suddenly in April 1971.
She was an active church member, was part of the Ladies Guild, the Lutheran Layman's League and the Lutheran Good Shepherd Home. She was the Aid Association for Lutherans secretary for 30 years.
She enjoyed sports, growing roses, sewing, quilting and crocheting rugs.
Survivors include her daughters Irene McKinney, Albany and Dorothy Akins, Springfield; sons Fred, Albany, Ervin, Corvallis and Edwin, Boise; 10 grandchildren including Michael, Amanda and Allison Vetter and Tina Siegner of Albany; 11 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death were brothers Walter, Edwin, Arnold and Paul Engel; sister Paula Engel and infant great-grandchild Noel Vetter.
A celebration of life will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Immanuel Lutheran Church with the Rev. Arnold Abel officiating. Private family burial will be at Willamette Memorial Park before the memorial service .
