Uzhgorod team visits Corvallis

A group of delegates from Corvallis' Ukrainian sister city, Uzhgorod, will visit Corvallis March 15 through 29.

The delegation is comprised of Viktor Pohorelov, mayor of Uzhgorod; Stanislav Sokach, business manager of the professional choir "Cantus"; and Ukranian journalist Viktoria Roman. Kateryna Bizilya will accompany the group as an interpreter.

Local residents are invited to a reception sponsored by the Corvallis Sister Cities Association. The reception is at 7 p.m. Sunday in the Corvallis-Benton County Public Library's large meeting room.

While in Corvallis, Pohorelov will work with residents who are helping with Uzhgorod's water issues, health concerns such as tuberculosis, and tourism. He also will visit City Hall, public schools, Linn-Benton Community College, Good Samaritan Regional Medical Center and Oregon State University.

Sokach will meet with various choirs in Corvallis and plan a future visit and performances by the Cantus choir.

Roman will spend time working with the staff of the Gazette-Times, and will write articles about her visit when she returns to Uzhgorod.
