BLODGETT — The Philomath School Board will meet Monday in the Blodgett School gym at 7 p.m. It is an important meeting for everyone in the Blodgett and Summit communities.
Under discussion will be a proposal to re-district our voting area for school board representative, versus electing school board members at large.
Major budget cuts that will affect our children also will be discussed. Everyone's comments and support is critical, so come and spread the word.
Dinner and dessert auction
The Dime-A-Dip Dinner and Dessert Auction will be Saturday night. Proceeds are donated to the Bill Ayers Memorial Scholarship Fund. It's an evening of laughter and friendship, celebrating the communities of Blodgett and Summit.
Set up will be at 5:30, dinner at 6 p.m. and the auction at 7. The Dime-A-Dip is held at the Blodgett School. Bring a salad, vegetable or main dish to share.
Bill Ayer Memorial Scholarship applications are available at the counselors' office at Philomath High School. This scholarship is for graduates of Philomath High who have lived in the Blodgett-Summit area for at least five years.
To qualify, the graduating senior must have attended Blodgett School, or have been eligible to attend Blodgett School, during any of the five elementary years. Applications are evaluated by a Blodgett-Summit Community Club committee and are awarded based on the student's accomplishments. The scholarship is $300.
Community club meets
The Blodgett-Summit Community Club held its meeting March 1. The club meets the first Monday of every month at the Blodgett School, and they could sure use some new blood to work on future projects.
I want to thank friend and neighbor Debbie Boyd for keeping me up to date. Here are the highlights of what's coming up in the community.
St. Patrick's in Summit
St. Patrick's Day is coming early in Summit this year. On Saturday, local musicians The Mighty Warriors will entertain partiers with Celtic tunes at the Summit Center.
This St. Patty's Day celebration is a wonderful opportunity to commune with friends, eat, drink and listen to Irish music. It's particularly nice if green happens to be your color. The festivities are gratis.
Bring finger food and beverages to share — or not. These Celtic rituals have been a lot of fun in the past, and promise to be just as enjoyable this year.
Summit Talent Show
Those who like to plan ahead, take note. The 20th annual Summit Talent Show has been scheduled for April 24 at the newly remodeled Summit Grange Hall.
Ladies Night Out
Ladies Night Out meets at the Summit Community Center every other Monday. This month, the next meeting will be March 22.
We meet at 7 p.m. and share time with one another. Come join us for a fun and relaxing evening with the girls!
