Author leads session on communication

Sharon Ellison, author of "Taking the War Out of Our Words: The Art of Powerful Non-Defensive Communication," will present a free mini-workshop at 7 p.m. Friday at Grass Roots Books & Music, 227 S.W. Second St.

She will read stories from her book, act out situations to show why people become defensive, and present an easy, practical way to communicate so that listeners are accepting.

Ellison also will teach attendees how to disarm their own instincts for reacting defensively and how to increase their own power without manipulating or controlling others.

On Saturday, Ellison will present a daylong workshop on her communication techniques. To more information about the Saturday event, which has openings, contact Cathy Neumann at 754-6228 or Cathy.Neumann@oregon state.edu.
