Reservations Northwest, the Oregon state park campsite reservations center, is open from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday. The extended hours will be in effect through Sept. 3.
Callers can reserve full hookup (sewer, electricity and water), electrical hookup and tent sites at 26 state parks by calling the center's toll-free number, 800-452-5687.
The center also accepts reservations for all state park yurts, cabins, horse camps, group tent and group RV camping areas, and for most group picnic shelters. Reservations can be made nine months in advance and up to two days before campers are scheduled to register.
Full hookup, electrical hookup and tent sites also can be reserved on the Internet through www.oregonstateparks.org.
Even with the center open two hours longer, center manager Marilyn Borgelt said the best time to call at this time of year is Wednesday through Friday in the afternoon.
"We can provide faster service during that time of the week and day at this time of year, no matter how long we're open," said Borgelt.
Although the center is closed on weekends and holidays, cancellations can be made 24 hours a day, seven days a week, using the center's phone message system.
Except for a few tent sites at Valley of the Rogue State Park in southern Oregon and Memaloose State Park in the Columbia River Gorge, reservable campsites for Memorial Day weekend are practically non-existent, according to the center's latest reports. However, sites are available on a first-come, first-served basis at 24 other parks around the state.
More information about campgrounds that offer first-come, first-served camping can be obtained by calling the Oregon State Parks Information Center (800-551-6949), or see www.oregonstateparks.org.
