Activities will be geared toward kids ages 6 to 12
MCMINNVILLE — Evergreen Aviation Museum will offer a back-to-school day of events for children age 6 to 12 on Saturday, Aug. 28.
Admission for children will be $5; children five and younger are admitted free.
Parent/child activities will include radio controlled model flying, balsa glider making and creating alka-seltzer rockets. In addition to the specialty activities, the children's interactive center will be open where children can experience flight simulators and learn about the theory of flight with hands-on exhibits. Guided public tours will also be available at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m.
Activities from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.:
Children 12 and younger are admitted to the museum for $5; no additional fees required other than general admission. All children's activities will begin in the Museum's West Wing.
9:30 a.m. to noon — Radio Controlled (RC) Model Flying. Children will have the chance to fly RC models using the buddy-box system.
11 a.m. to 2 p.m. — Balsa-Glider Making. Children will have the opportunity to make their own balsa-gliders.
11 a.m to 2 p.m. — Alka-Seltzer Rockets. Children will learn how to make and fly their own alka-seltzer rockets.
The Evergreen Aviation Museum is best known as the home of the world's largest wooden airplane, the Spruce Goose, SR-71 Blackbird and Grumman F6F-3 Hellcat. In addition, there are more than 55 historic aircraft and exhibits on display, along with aviation artwork, traveling displays, the newly remodeled Spruce Goose Cafe and the museum store. The Museum is at 500 NE Captain Michael King Smith Way, across the highway from the McMinnville Airport and about three miles southeast of McMinnville on Highway 18.
