CORVALLIS — Music, rather than talk, will take center stage for the November topic of the Inside Opera Lecture Series. Presented montly by Opera Theater Corvallis, the second lecture of the series will take place at 10:15 a.m. in the Main Meeting room of the Corvallis —Benton County Public Library, 645 N.W. Monroe Ave.
In the presentation, titled "Opera Overtures and Entr'actes," The Quintessential Winds, a group founded by Lisa Taylor, offers a program of famous opera overtures, entr'actes and highlights.
The group is made up of five local musicians, who, like many professional musicians, must be masters of at least dual-tasking.
Jeanette Brudvig, a music graduate of the University of Arizona, will play the flute; she divides her time between her music teaching career and caring for her baby, Catherine.
The oboe is played by Jaclyn LaRue, a busy musician with various groups in the Eugene area, and Development Director for the Eugene Opera and Eugene Ballet.
The clarinetist is Lisa Taylor, who appears in many musical venues in Albany, Corvallis and Eugene, while helping to raise daughter Rose, a budding cellist, and seeking a permanent chair in an orchestra.
Dan Harlan, a 20 year veteran of the Corvallis/Albany music scene, is the horn player; when not performing or practicing, Dan works in the lab safety department of OSU.
The bassoon will be played by Kerry Mammone, an HP innovator and research vessel scientist, who interrupts her weekends of mountain climbing and marathon preparation for the many area music events which seek her participation.
Following the concert, audience members can participate in a quiz on the selection played. The winner of the quiz will receive a pair of tickets to an upcoming performance of the Eugene Opera.
The concert is free; refreshments will be served.
The next lecture, set for Saturday, Dec. 11, will feature Robert Ashens, Artistic Director of Eugene Opera, highlighting Eugene's upcoming performance of "Die Fledermaus."
