Ten-year-old Courteney Amidon has always wanted to attend the Country Music Awards. In a couple of weeks, her dream will come true.
The Make-A-Wish Foundation of Oregon, along with the Corvallis Cold Stone Creamery, is hosting a party for Courteney where her wish will be granted. The event takes place Monday at 7 p.m. at the Corvallis ice cream shop, at 2350 N.W. Ninth St.
“I’m really excited,” Courteney said. The fifth-grader at Franklin School has never flown on a plane before, so she’s looking forward to winging her way to New York City with her parents and cousin.
The Make-A-Wish Foundation grants the wishes of children with life-threatening medical conditions. Courteney qualified because she has aplastic anemia, a rare bone marrow disorder.
Courteney and family will leave for New York Nov. 12 and return home Nov. 17. They’ll attend the Country Music Awards on Nov. 15, as well as visit the Empire State Building, the Statue of Liberty and other popular tourist spots.
“My initials are ‘CMA,’ and I also like country music. And my mom and dad named me while watching the CMAs, so that’s why I want to go,” Courteney said.
Cold Stone Creamery stores around the nation sponsor ice cream socials each April to raise money for the Make-A-Wish Foundation. This year, employees at the Corvallis, McMinnville and Lincoln City franchises owned by Jason and Michele Heckel raised over $6,000 for the non-profit organization.
