FEDERAL WAY, Wash. — Led by a dominating performance in the 200 butterfly, Oregon State finished third overall in the Husky Invitational on Sunday night at the King County Aquatic Center.
The Beavers took first and second, then fifth and seventh in the 200 butterfly to solidify the event as one of their strongest.
Saori Haruguchi got the win in the event with an NCAA B-standard time of one minute, 58.84 seconds. Haruguchi’s performance in the event ranks second all-time at Oregon State.
Senior Monika Miroslaw also swam to an NCAA B-standard with her second-place finish in the event. Miroslaw’s time of 2:00.22 is a career best time and ranks third all-time at Oregon State.
Freshman Kayla Rawlings (fifth, 2:02.92) and senior Christina Kinney (seventh, 2:04.22) rounded out the Beavers’ scoring in the the event.
“I think all of them have the potential to make it to the NCAA’s in the event,” OSU coach Larry Liebowitz said. “This is one of our strongest events and I am glad to see that everyone stepped up tonight.”
Junior Sandy Hong continued her success in the distance freestyle events with a second-place finish in the 1,650 freestyle. Hong touched the wall with a season best time of 16:57.45.
Junior Erika Wirth finished third in the 100 freestyle with a season best time of 51.37.
“Overall it was a spectacular meet,” Liebowitz said. “There was a whole group of girls on the team that stepped up at this meet and at this point I think we are really set to finish up the season well.”
