STOCKTON, Calif. n The Oregon State baseball team scored four runs in the ninth inning to beat Pacific 6-4 in nonconference game Tuesday night at Stockton Ballpark.
The 15th-ranked Beavers (16-7) won their fourth straight game, and 12th time in their last 15 games.
OSU ended five-game winning streak by the Tigers (16-8). The four runs in the ninth came on two hits, two walks and three errors. Prior to the game, the Beavers have been 0-7 when trailed after six innings.
Joe Paterson (1-0), a sophomore lefthander who transferred from Division III Linfield, got the win. He kept OSU in the game through the last half of the contest, going 3 2/3 scoreless innings and retiring the first 10 hitters he faced. He allowed just one hit and no walks while striking out four.
The game-winning rally came against Pacific closer Eric Stolp. Mike Lissman hit a grounder to first that brought home Rowe with the go-ahead run and Lissman was safe at first and advanced all the way to second when first baseman Brett Manning let the ball get by him.
OSU closer Kevin Gunderson pitched the ninth for his seventh save. Barney extended his hitting streak to 13 games with a first-inning double down the leftfield line.
