People on the Move

Bill McGinty has been named manufacturing manager of MEI in Albany. McGinty will be responsible for supervision and training of 50 employees and will oversee manufacturing and facilities operations, safety and maintenance. McGinty has nearly 20 years’ experience in the industry, most recently as facilities manager and manufacturing group manager at Tyco Electronics printed circuit group in Dallas. MEI is a manufacturing and service company serving the semiconductor and high technology industries.

Officers & Directors

John Tanaka has been named president of the Society for Range Management. Tanaka, an associate professor in Oregon State University’s department of agricultural and resource economics, works at OSU’s Eastern Oregon Agricultural Research Center in Union. His research focuses on how cattle ranches can become more profitable while improving the environment.

Dr. David Grube, a Philomath family practitioner, has been elected chairman of the Oregon Board of Medical Examiners. Previously, he served as vice chairman and secretary. Dr. Lisa Cornelius, a Corvallis podiatrist, has been appointed to a three-year term on the board. She is the first podiatrist to serve on the 117-year-old board.

The Arc of Benton County Inc. has elected officers and directors for 2006-2007. The new officers are Jack Mykrantz, president; Kimberly Cleveland, vice president; Mike Hoffman, treasurer; Candi Cooke, secretary; and Peter Ball, immediate past president. The new directors are Harold Harris, Julie Sanchez, Jeff McCubbin, Verlene Melero and Dr. Norman Castillo.

Community Outreach Inc. of Corvallis has elected new officers. They are Sue Mariner, president; Judy Corwin, president-elect; Nadine Davison, treasurer; and the Rev. Stephen Dietrich, secretary. Community Outreach provides shelter, medical clinics, food banks, therapeutic child care, drug and alcohol treatment and mental health counseling to mid-valley residents.

Debbie Weddle of Mission Hills Mortgage Bankers in Albany has won the company’s President’s Award. She has been in the top 10 percent of the company in sales for the last three years and was one of only three in the Oregon region to win the award. Weddle is the area manager for branches in Albany, McMinnville, Salem and Lebanon.

Oregon State University Printing and Mailing Services has earned the 2005 Management Award from the International Publishing Management Association. After six years of operating losses, OSUs Print and Mailing Services reversed the trend last year. The department’s 22 full-time and four part-time employees increased revenue by $1 million and generated a $75,000 surplus to cover previous years’ losses, despite an increase in labor and material costs.

Rix Computer Magic has opened for business at 233 N.W. Ninth St. in Corvallis. Owner Rick Shafer, formerly of Computer Tune Up and Repair, offers computer repair and data recovery, security software and customized computer building, installation, networking and setup. The phone number is 738-0282.

News & Notes

Small World Wine Co. in Philomath has begun bottling wine under its own label, Spindrift Cellars. Small World has done private-label bottling for restaurants and other customers in the past and will continue to do so. But now owners Matthew and Tabitha Compton will market their own pinot noir, pinot gris and chardonnay under the Spindrift label, which will be unveiled over Memorial Day weekend at the winery, 810 Applegate St. in Philomath.

The vineyards and winery of Cardwell Hill Cellars in Wren have been certified salmon-safe by LIVE Inc. of Oregon, an organization that promotes low-input viticulture and enology. The certification signifies that Cardwell Hill’s farming and winemaking processes will not affect the waters supporting salmon life and spawning. There are specific requirements for the use of chemicals, runoff and erosion.

Good Earth Pest Co. of Corvallis has earned the QualityPro designation from the National Pest Management Association. QualityPro companies must meet qualifications that include employing only credentialed workers, offering easy-to-understand warranty and service agreements, maintaining a drug-free workplace and advertising truthfully and ethically. Good Earth Pest Co. is owned by Richard and Rene Kesecker.
