Rowers win titles

The Master’s Club eight from the Corvallis Rowing Club won two national championships this past weekend at the 127th annual masters national championships at Green Lake, Wash.

The eight, which consisted of cox Craig Tokuda and oarsmen Bob Poole, Walt Manning, John Frohnmayer, Tim Grubert, Steve Rogers, Ralph Nauman, John Elder and Tom Taylor, defeated Ashland and Marin, Calif., over a 1,000-meter course.

Also, the double of Poole and Rogers won the national title in the F category.

The women’s eight placed fourth in its heat. It consisted of cox Lindsay Conners and oarswomen Pam Trimmer, Kathy Holdorf, Libby Bogard, Laura Johnson, Sara Wright, Sally Haerer, Kate Stewart and Laura Duncan-Allen.

The club also won a silver medal in the men’s F eight (average age 60-64) and bronze medal in the E-8 (55-59 years). Those crews consisted of Poole, Tokuda, Rogers, Manning, Frohnmayer, Elder, Jim Russell, Bob Turner, Taylor, Jim Dobis, Chris Romsos and Ralph Nauman.
