OSU WOMEN’S SOCCER

CORVALLIS — It’s rare to see a player bend in a corner kick for a goal, but senior midfielder Jen Crump did it twice to lead the Oregon State women’s soccer team to a 4-1 win over Trinity Western in an exhibition game on Saturday night at Lorenz Field.
Crump finished with three goals.
“It was nice to have a preseason game,” OSU coach Steve Fennah said. “One of our targets we set was to be more creative and to score some more goals.
“Jen just had a tremendous effort with her hat trick. All around, it was a good creative performance by our forwards.”
Crump, who has only three career goals after her first three years at OSU, got the Beavers on the board in the ninth minute. She took a corner kick from the right, and bent it perfectly so that it found its way over the goalkeeper and inside the far post for a goal.
The Beavers played without their likely starting forwards, juniors Jodie Taylor and Whitney Goodell, who were both held out with minor injuries.
OSU opens the regular season on Friday at the Washington State Cougar Classic, where the Beavers will play Gonzaga, then UNLV on Aug. 27.
