Vigil marks 9-11’s fifth anniversary

A candlelight vigil is planned at the Benton County Veterans Memorial to commemorate the fifth anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks.

The ceremony will begin at 7:30 p.m. Monday at the veterans memorial at the National Guard Armory, 1100 N.W. Kings Blvd. It will feature patriotic music and remarks by Corvallis Mayor Helen Berg and representatives of local emergency services.

The event is being organized by Les Whittle, founder of the veterans memorial. Whittle helped organize similar events shortly after the attacks and on the first anniversary.

The hourlong program includes recognition of fire department and law enforcement personnel. Candles will be provided, and there will be a community sing-along.

Seating will not be provided, so people are encouraged to bring a chair.

For more information, contact Whittle at 752-3222 or LesVetsMem@aol.com.
