BANDON — The Oregon State men’s golf team placed 11th at the 12-team Pac 10/Big Ten Challenge at Bandon Dunes on Tuesday.
The Pac-10 won the meet, which featured six teams from each conference, by 69 strokes.
The Beavers shot a 300 on the final round and a 932 (303-322-300); UCLA won with 885 (284-310-291). Jamie Lovemark of USC shot a 4-under-67 in the third round to win medalist honors with a 4-under-par 209 (70-72-67).
James Allenby led OSU with a 25th-place finish at 228.
“We played better, but we still made some mistakes,” OSU coach Brian Watts said. “Unfortunately we made too many mistakes (Monday). We didn’t execute the golf shots we needed to put us in scoring position.
“We had too many guys play badly at the same time. As strong as that field was, we couldn’t afford to make that many mistakes. They’ll get some much-needed rest before we hit the course again in a couple weeks.
“Hopefully they’ll be ready to go in the spring.”
OSU will not compete again until the Hawaii-Hilo Invitational at Waikoloa Village Golf Course on Feb. 7.
