Longtime managing editor departs the Gazette-Times

The Gazette-Times

After spending more than 20 years at the Corvallis Gazette-Times, Managing Editor Rob Priewe is leaving the newspaper.

“I’ve had the great pleasure of working at the Gazette-Times and serving readers of Corvallis and Benton County the past two decades,” Priewe said.

Priewe, 44, joined the newspaper as its education reporter in November 1986. He became managing editor in February 1998.

“It’s been extremely gratifying to work alongside so many fine journalists, and to see so many young people learn here and go on to fine careers,” Priewe said.

“I’ve looked forward to the daily challenges and, yes, the fun that comes with working at a community newspaper, and making a difference in so many people’s lives. Truly, there’s nothing else like it.”

“While I’ll miss all that goes into producing the daily paper n some call it the daily miracle n I’m looking forward to some new endeavors. Maybe another marathon.”

Mike McInally, publisher of the Gazette-Times, praised Priewe’s dedication to Corvallis, Benton County and the newspaper.

“Rob has served this community and this newspaper for many years,” McInally said. “I very much appreciate the work he did in this newsroom and throughout the community in his roles as an editor and a reporter.”

McInally said a search for a new managing editor would begin immediately.
