Eric David Teegarden, a senior at Crescent Valley High School, has been named one of more than 2,600 candidates in the 2007 Presidential Scholars program. The candidates were selected from nearly 2.8 million students expected to graduate from U.S. high schools in the year 2007.
Inclusion in this program is one of the highest honors bestowed on graduating high-school seniors. Scholars are selected on the basis of superior academic and artistic achievements, leadership qualities, strong character and involvement in community and school activities.
The candidates were selected for their exceptional performance on either the College Board SAT or the ACT Assessment. Further consideration is based on students’ essays, self-assessments, descriptions of activities, school recommendations and school transcripts.
Eric is the son of Randall and Carolyn Teegarden of Corvallis.
Leung serves on Youth Advisory Team
Adrian Leung, a sophomore in the International High School at Churchill High School in Eugene, has recently moved with his family back to Corvallis and attends Corvallis High School. He will be the only student representing Corvallis to serve on the State Superintendent Susan Castillo’s Youth Advisory Team.
The Team consists of a group of students from all over Oregon who meet five to six times a year, in day-long meetings, to discuss issues related to education and give recommendations to the superintendent. At the Youth Advisory Team meetings, the students are faced with many issues that affect schools and the community.
Leung was involved in student government leadership team in Churchill High School and Oregon Rites of Passage organized by Lane Community College. He also is serving a two-year term on Oregon Young Scholar Program, which is organized by the University of Oregon for gifted students to be trained to become future leaders. Last summer, Leung, along with his two brothers, were on an education mission to China. Governor Kulongoski, on behalf of his brother, Aaron Leung, sent a letter to the Henan Provincial Governor in China and requested his personal attention and assistance to facilitate their visit so that they could observe and share our American education system with the Chinese.
