Gazette-Times

Oregon State sophomore Tasha Smith has been named the Pacific-10 Conference Gymnast of the Week for Feb. 20-26, the conference office announced Tuesday.

Smith, from Auburn, Wash., enjoyed a career night last Friday, helping 15th-ranked OSU to its 11th best score in school history, 196.975, against Washington and Seattle Pacific.

The 2006 Pac-10 vault and floor exercise champion had season-high scores in all four events and matched career-best scores on vault (9.925), bars (9.850) and floor (9.950) on her way to a career-high 39.550 in the all-around . She won both the floor and the all-around.

Smith’s Gymnast of the Week award is the second for an Oregon State gymnast in the last two weeks.

The Beavers compete against in a quadrangular meet with Boise State, UC Davis and Seattle Pacific at 6 p.m. Friday at Boise State’s Taco Bell Arena.
