A tad more nutrition with Diet Coke Plus

Should you add this to your shopping list?

What’s new on shelves: Diet Coke Plus with vitamins and minerals.

What are those vitamins and minerals? Niacin, vitamin B6, vitamin B12, magnesium and zinc.

Would my doctor prescribe it? Not likely. But an eight-ounce serving has 15 percent of the recommended daily allowance of niacin, B6 and B12 and 10 percent of zinc and magnesium. But we wouldn’t recommend downing four or five cans a day just to get the vitamins and minerals you should be getting from a healthy diet and a multiple vitamin.

Is it part of a trend? Yes. Several new nutrient-enhanced “power” waters also serve up vitamins with zero calories. Tava, Pepsi’s new vitamin-fortified cola, is slated for introduction this summer.

How does it taste? A little sweeter than plain DC.

The bottom line: If you’re drinking diet soft drinks anyway, the vitamins and minerals are a “plus.”
