Corvallis Urban Beautification and Forestry Commission is recognizing different outstanding landscapes throughout town, marking them with signs such as this one, found in Barb Sieck’s yard on Kings Boulevard.
Corvallis Beautification Awards signs get facelift

Pink signs are springing up all over town in some pretty spectacular front yards.

It’s a new way of pointing out what one city organization has decided are the best accessibly-landscaped places in Corvallis.

The Civic Beautification/Urban Forestry Committee, a citizen’s group formed to advise the City Council on landscaping and trees in the city, has recognized great yards since 1983. This year, they’ve developed a new sign featuring the city flower, the chrysanthemum.

Awards were spread throughout the city, with four recognized yards coming from each of Corvallis’ nine wards.

Barbara Sieck turned her whole front yard at 2215 N.W. Kings Blvd. from grass to garden in just a couple of months. She said she’s gotten to know her neighbors since the transformation as people walking the street stop and talk with her.

“People stop and ask about this or that,” Sieck said. “I really enjoy it.”
