The Corvallis-Uzhgorod Sister Cities Association has elected its leadership for the 2007-08 year.

Officers are Roy Hart, president; Naomi Weidner, vice president; and Marion McNamara, treasurer. Board members are Mike Boom, Evan Fieman, Mark Foster, Cari Gleason, Bonnie Jackson, Els Lofgren, Gary Meddaugh, Kathy Meddaugh, Peggy Peirson, Bill Smart and Beverly Smith.

Garity wins Stanford president’s award

Diana Garity, a 2006 graduate of Corvallis High School, has been selected from the class of 2010 as one of a small group of recipients of Stanford University’s President’s Award for Academic Excellence in the freshman year. Diana is pursuing a major in linguistics and minors in modern languages and Russian, East European and Eurasian studies.

Katherine Bode gets presidential scholar

Katherine Bode of Corvallis has been named a California Lutheran University Presidential Scholar. The program recognizes incoming freshman of outstanding caliber. The students receive scholarships ranging from $14,500 to full tuition for four years. Bode is majoring in psychology.

Military news

Army Pvt. Philip J. Monroe has graduated from Basic Combat training at Fort Sill, Lawton, Okla. Monroe is a 2004 graduate of Eddyville High School.
