CHS spikes South Albany

Corvallis High swept South Albany on Thursday night to earn a Mid-Willamette Conference volleyball victory.

Game scores were 26-24, 25-17 and 25-22.

CHS (4-2 MWC) brought sophomore setter Hannah Westly into the match in the second game, which allowed Sam Pimental to hit.

“Getting Hannah in and letting Sam hit was a positive tonight,” CHS coach Amy Wright said.

Taylor Westly had 10 kills, Pimental has eight kills and four blocks and Alaina Adams had five blocks to lead CHS.

Corvallis hosts Lebanon on Tuesday.



Silverton 3, Cres. Valley 1


Silverton handed the Raiders their second straight Mid-Willamette Conference loss. Game scores were 25-23, 25-22, 25-27 and 26-16.

CV (4-2), which lost to West Albany on Tuesday, was undone by 40 unforced errors.

The Raiders also committed 12 service errors at crucial moments in the match that killed their momentum.

“This two match slide may look bad,” CV coach Corey Barton. “But it’s coming at a time during the season that gives us time to figure things out so we can finish the season peaking.”

Christy Reed had 11 kills, Janelle Batista added 10, Julia Marstall recorded 10 blocks, Hanna Lorenz tallied 29 assists and Sammi Brandstetter had 20 digs for the Raiders.

Crescent Valley hosts Woodburn on Tuesday.

Monroe 3, Glendale 2

MONROE - Monroe High rallied to defeat Glendale in a Mountain West Conference match.

Games scores were 25-15, 13-25, 19-25, 25-18 and 15-11.

“They kept playing them,” MHS coach Debbie Crocker said of her team. “The last two games, they were relaxed and finished the match. They played their game.”

The Dragons (2-3 MVC) were led by Kim Thompson’s eight kills, three aces and three blocks. Kayla Guldager added six kills and four blocks and Tessa Stroda had 18 assists and three aces.

Monroe is at Oakland on Tuesday.

S. Christian 3, Waldport 0

WALDPORT — Santiam Christian improved to 5-1 in PacWest League play with a sweep of Waldport.

Game scores were 25-15, 25-22 and 25-13.

“Waldport was a scrappy team,” SC coach Kim McLain said.

“So we had to play defense and we struggled with our passing in the second game, but we recovered in the second game.”

Kristen Knaupp led the Eagles with nine kills and four aces, and Kalyssa Koontz and Tiffany Lamb each had seven kills.

Santiam Christian hosts the Santiam Christian Invitational on Saturday.

Boys soccer

PHILOMATH - Philomath High opened Val-Co League play with a 1-0 shutout of Taft.

“Defensively, it was a our best match so far,” PHS coach Shawn Bonds said. “It was nice to get a shutout. The defensive players and goalkeepers are coming together.”

Morgan Foster scored the lone goal of the game in the 15th minute. His shot hit off a defender and went into the net. Last season, he converted a game winning shot against the Tigers as well.

Philomath (1-5-1, 1-0) plays Sweet Home on Tuesday.

Girls soccer

ALBANY - Philomath’s Kelly Keese scored three first-half goals to pace Philomath to a

6-1 victory over Santiam Christian in a Special District 4 game at Linn-Benton.

Ramie Sartnurak scored twice and had an assist and Sierra Grunwald had two assists for the Warriors (5-0-2).

Philomath plays host to Horizon Christian on Monday. SC (3-3, 2-2) plays at Riverdale on Monday.
