Who’s hot
The training staff
The athletic trainers worked up a sweat in the game taking care of the injured. There were six players hurt during the game. See below for the full list.
What’s not
The offense
Part of the problem was Southern California was just too athletic, but with 176 total yards and three points, even a solid defensive performance can’t help.
Turning point
USC went up 17-3 with 3:58 left in the first half. QB Sean Canfield threw an interception on the next play and the Trojans made it 24-3 on the following possession with 2:07 left before intermission.
Key stat
2.7
That’s the average yards gained per play by the Beavers, showing the offense’s lack of production.
Injury report
• CB Tim Clark (back) was hurt in the second half.
• WR Shane Morales (knee) was hurt in the second half.
• DE Dorian Smith (knee) was hurt in the second half.
• DT Gerard Lee (hamstring) was hurt in the second half.
• QB Sean Canfield (shoulder) was hurt at the end of the game.
• RB Matt Sieverson (shoulder) was hurt at the end of the game.
Trends
The Beavers still have trouble winning in the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum, losing 21 straight dating back to 1960.
MIA
• Senior RB Yvenson Bernard (shoulder) didn’t play after being hurt last weekend against Stanford. Sieverson started and carried 10 times for 33 yards. Clinton Polk played a significant amount with 12 carries for 45 yards.
• Junior OG Jeremy Perry (leg) didn’t play. He’s been out since the Aug. 30 season-opener against Utah. His recovery has been slower than expected.
Lewis back
Junior CB Keenan Lewis (knee) returned after three weeks and two games off. He started and had one tackle. His replacement while gone, Clark, rotated in on a regular basis. He had one tackle before being hurt.
Streak ends
After leading the nation in INTs at one point with 13, Canfield went 68 passes without throwing one dating back to the last loss, Sept. 29 against UCLA. His streak ended in the second quarter on his 11th pass of the game when he was intercepted by Terrell Thomas.
Serna’s points
Senior PK Alexis Serna took over sole possession of eighth place in Pac-10 career scoring with 345 points. He’s 21 points away from OSU career leader RB Ken Simonton (1998-01).
Fast start
Freshman WR James Rodgers ran the ball 39 yards on an end around for OSU’s first offensive play of the game. It was the longest run play against the Trojans this season.
Big crowd
The 85,713 the Beavers played in front of was the second largest Pac-10 crowd they’ve played before. It came close to the 86,000 in Tokyo against UCLA in 1980.
Bowl watch
The Beavers still need one victory in the last three games to become bowl eligible. Two wins would guarantee a postseason game.
