Beavers report card

CLIFF KIRKPATRICK
Corvallis Gazette-Times

QUARTERBACKS: Sean Canfield didn’t have much time to pass, and was hit on his INT. A few of the sacks could have been avoided and better passes made.

C-

RUNNING BACKS: With Yvenson Bernard (shoulder) out, Matt Sieverson and Clinton Polk didn’t make up for the loss. There was inconsistent blocking.

D

WIDE RECEIVERS: Getting open was difficult, which contributed to some of the sacks. When they were open, there were a few drops.

C-

OFFENSIVE LINE: It was a rough night protecting the QB, allowing nine sacks. When not sacked, Canfield was frequently hit. There was limited running room.

F

DEFENSIVE LINE: The usual QB pressure wasn’t there so there was time for John David Booty to throw. There were too many runs up the middle.

C

LINEBACKERS: Joey LaRocque, Alan Darlin and Derrick Doggett were busy men containing the run and covering the mid-range passes.

B

SECONDARY: Booty wasn’t that accurate, so that helped. When pressed in coverage, the secondary was strong. There were a few missed tackles.

B

SPECIAL TEAMS: There was a missed FG, so-so punting and below average coverage on kicks and punts. The returns were even a little shaky.

D

COACHING: The defense was solid against an athletic opponent, and improved. The handicaps on offense were too much to overcome in this game.
