Oregon State football coach Mike Riley’s wife, Dee, started a team donation drive for 10 children at an area local children outreach center.
All the players are donating $5 from the money they receive from the school to eat while on their Emerald Bowl trip.
Coaches are donating some of their money, so Riley estimates more than $600 will be raised.
Team captains Sammie Stroughter, Derrick Doggett, Yvenson Bernard and Ryan Gunderson will go shopping for the children, and the presents will be given out in time for Christmas.
Travel roster
All but three players will be taken on the bowl game trip because they are ineligible, Riley said. They are offensive tackle Tavita Thompson, defensive lineman Evan Hull and receiver Shawn McGarity.
Thompson was ruled ineligible at midseason by the NCAA for an undisclosed reason. Hull and McGarity are transfers from four-year colleges, sitting the year out according to NCAA rules.
Ticket update
OSU has sold approximately 7,300 tickets for the Emerald Bowl. It’s going to be the best fan showing since the 2001 Fiesta Bowl.
Maryland had sold 5,200 tickets at the beginning of the week.
