The Buzz: Raspberry Jam

The nominees are in! No, not for the Oscars, but for this year’s Razzies. The spoof of awards shows released its list of the actors, actresses and films all vying for the prestigious title “worst of the year.”

Lindsay Lohan and Eddie Murphy led the pack, each earning multiple nominations. Lohan’s film “I Know Who Killed Me” received a total of nine nominations, including two for Lohan, who plays twin sisters. Murphy racked up his nods for “Norbit,” in which he not only played the lead, but also a veritable army of fat-suited, wig-bedecked and racially-altered characters. Murphy was actually nominated for worst actor, worst actress, worst supporting actor and worst screen couple honors.

Speaking of Murphy, we at The Buzz think it’s high time that The Razzies started giving out lifetime (under)achievement awards, for actors such as Murphy, who have made a career out of assaulting the movie-going public with reel after reel of unwatchable tripe.

As Detroit Tigers pitcher Mike Maroth recently proved — and as counterintuitive as it might seem — you have to be a pretty good pitcher to lose 20 games and keep playing. The fact that studios keep putting these people in movies means that either they’ve got a whole lot of potential, or else they’re making enough money that they don’t have to.

First annual Lifetime (Under)achievement in Film Awards

In the category of worst director, we nominate Uwe Boll.

If you’re unfamiliar with Boll, he’s truly a modern marvel, directing such stinkfests as “House of the Dead,” “Alone in the Dark,” “Bloodrayne” and “In the Name of the King: A Dungeon Siege Tale.” Never mind the fact that every one of those is a bad video game adaptation, the fact that he keeps getting hired when movie after movie of his bombs at the box office makes us think that he knows the cinematic equivalent of “up, up, down, down, left, right, left, right, B, A, select, start” that used to earn players 30 guys in Nintendo game “Contra.” Speaking of which, we smell a movie.

For worst actress, we nominate Jennifer Lopez for lifetime (under)achievement award. A living instruction manual for aspiring bad actresses, she’s managed to be bad in so many different kinds of bad movies that it boggles the mind. From “The Cell” to “Monster-in-Law,” from “Maid in Manhattan” to “Enough,” from “Angel Eyes” to “Anaconda,” here is a diva who can literally be bad in any kind of role. Oh, and we almost forgot “Gigli,” just like the rest of the movie-going public did.

Coming up with a worst actor nominee was tough. Between Robin Williams, Paully Shore, Rob Schneider, Cuba Gooding Jr., Ice Cube, Keanu Reeves and Paul Walker, you have got a sea of contenders to make you swear off watching movies altogether. But one man over the course of the past 30 years has proved himself capable of cranking out horrendous affront after horrendous affront: John Travolta. Granted, he made “Pulp Fiction” and “Saturday Night Fever,” but in the face of “Battlefield: Earth,” Wild Hogs,” “Staying Alive,” “Swordfish,” all the “Look Who’s Talking” films, “Michael,” “The Boy in the Plastic Bubble” and, well, you get the picture. Travolta is a one-man bombsquad of Biblical proportions. We’re not sure of the legality on this, but can Hollywood take out a restraining order?
