The Crescent Valley High girls track and field team should get off to a quick start at the Mid-Willamette Conference district meet that begins today at Western Oregon University.

Amelia Yeager, Mackenzie Entrikin and Sarah Auer are the top three seeds in the 3,000-meter run, which kicks off the track events at 5 p.m.

Field events begin with finals in the boys high jump and boys pole vault at 4:15 p.m.

The top two finishers in each event and others reaching qualifying standards qualify for next week’s 5A state meet at Hayward Field in Eugene.

Other than the boys and girls 3,000 runs, all the track events are prelims, with the top eight advancing to Wednesday’s finals.

Finals in the field events include the girls and boys long jump, girls shot put, boys discus and girls javelin.

In the boys high jump, Crescent Valley’s Doug Pentland is seeded second. Corvallis High senior Anthony Emmons is the top seed in the boys discus.

In the track events, CHS junior McKenzie Redberg is the top seed in the 100 and 200, with CV freshman Hannah McCarty a close second in the 200.

CHS junior Philip Jonsrud is tops in the boys 400. CV’s Hunter Park is a close first in the boys 200, just a tenth-of-a-second quicker than West Albany’s Drew Pigg. CHS junior Brad Nelson is the top seed in the boys 3,000.

In Wednesday’s action, the girls 400-meter relay team from Corvallis is the top seed, while the 400 and 1,600 relays for the CV boys are seeded second.

CHS freshman Annette Marinello is the top seed in the girls 1,500.

In field events, CV’s Janelle Batista is tops in the girls high jump, and CHS’s Emmons is tops in the boys shot put.

Action Wednesday begins at 5 p.m. with field events. Track events begin at 5:30 with the girls 400 relay.
