Anniversary: Higinbotham

Robert and Barbara Higinbotham celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary May 10 at a reception hosted by their children in Simpson Hall, Church of the Good Samaritan.

Barbara Jean Harman and Robert were married May 17, 1958, in their hometown of Port Angeles, Wash., in historic St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church. The Rev. John Como officiated.

For six years the couple lived in Kirkland, near Seattle. Bob worked for The Boeing Company. They moved to Corvallis, with their young family, in 1964.

The couple’s children are Larry Higinbotham and his wife, Jerri, of Corona, Calif.; Alan Higinbotham and his wife, Annette Simonson-Higinbotham, of Albany; and Jeanie Higinbotham of West Linn. Grandchildren are Eric of Corona, Calif., and Katie and Sienna of Albany.

Robert worked for the United States Postal Service in Corvallis, retiring in 1989. Barbara obtained teaching credentials from Oregon State University and did substitute teaching in journalism and social studies at Corvallis High School.

Guests at the reception who were present at the wedding were Mrs. Carol Harman of Corvallis, the matron of honor; Jean and Don Danielson of Seattle; and Roderick and Ginger Melville and Shirley Melville Peters of Port Angeles. Nephew Jay Harman, who prepared a memory video, was the ringbearer in 1958.

The Rev. Simon Justice read a poem, “Mountain Cabin,” written more than 70 years ago by Barbara’s grandmother.

Bob and Barbara enjoy living in the country, music, reading and family vacations at mountain lakes where the fishing is good.
