Punk acts on the hunt at Fox

Muckraker, Solid Gold join The Wobblies for CD release show

By The Entertainer

CORVALLIS — Three local punk bands gather this weekend at Fox & Firkin to celebrate the release of “American Bliss,” the new CD by The Wobblies. The political rockers will be joined by Solid Gold and Muckraker at 10 p.m. Saturday, June 14. The cover is $5.

“American Bliss” is the fourth CD by The Wobblies, following on the heels of 2006’s “Red Dawn Rising.” The group’s been playing a fiery brand of socially-conscious punk music since 2002. Band members are A.J. Smith on guitar and vocals, Ty Smith on drums and vocals, and Charlie Weller on bass and vocals.

Solid Gold is a local band combining Brady Greig and Jeff Schmid from Tourist with Kristin Swetland and Rebecca White from Blood on the Banjo. The group plays a brand of high-energy rock that draws on both indie and garage rock traditions, while tossing artsy, angular arrangements into the mix.

Muckraker is a hard-

driving punk act consisting of Robb Vancill, bass; Alex Foss, drums; Brigid Clark, vocals; Gabe Acock, guitar; and Grant Feist, guitar. Along with The Wobblies and the groups in Solid Gold, they played last weekend’s “Punk Melee” at the Corvallis Music History Project.

For more information about any of the bands, see their MySpace pages.
