Motorists: Watch for kids in summer

Gazette-Times

Last week marked the official beginning of summer vacation for local students. But that doesn’t mean children and teens will no longer be found at area schools.

Sgt. Jim Crain of the Corvallis Police Department reported while school is out, officers are not required to enforce the 20 mph speed limit in school zones. However, drivers should still be very cautious as they drive down those streets, he said.

“As soon as the weather gets nicer, there will be a lot more kids out riding their bikes and skateboards and going to school to play on the playgrounds,” Crain said.

“We still want people to really watch their speed and keep their awareness level up,” he said.
