Child safety class set for Saturday

A Child Safety Open House will be at 12:30 p.m. Saturday at Karate for Kids in Corvallis.

The Open House is part of ATA Martial Arts’ worldwide initiative to help minimize the risk of child abductions through education. Participants will learn about ways to stay safe, and will receive a free packet that includes instructions for dental records and DNA-gathering materials among other identification tools so that in case of an abduction, law enforcement can more readily identify missing children. A number of local businesses have partnered to pay for the kits.

Additionally, parents can purchase a three-DVD set at the event that gives them information on Internet safety.

ATA has partnered with AMBER Alert.com to increase AMBER Alert notification via e-mail and personal communication devices. Participants can sign up to become part of the notification system, which will alert them when a missing-child report is made in the local area.

Participants also include Renaissance Roofing, Jake the Glass Man and insurance agent Mark Webber.
