The Fatima Pilgrim Statue of the Blessed Mother will be on display at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 501 N.W. 25th St., on Saturday before it is taken to its permanent home in Russia.
The event, sponsored by the Catholic Daughters, will begin with veneration at 7:30 a.m., followed by an 8 a.m. Mass and program from 9 a.m. to noon in the Upper Social Hall. Admission is free, but a free-will offering will be taken to help with travel expenses.
The treasured statue of the World Apostolate of Fatima U.S.A. was severely charred in a fire in 2003. It was recently restored by renowned artist and sculptor Joe De Vito. Housed for many years at the Blue Army Shrine in Washington, N.J., the statue has been on tour throughout the United States since spring.
The statue is believed to be the Russian National Pilgrim Virgin Statue. It will be delivered to the people of Kazan, Russia, in September.
