Betty Jane Frazier, 78, of Medford died Saturday, Aug. 2, at her home.

She was born in Carlsbad, N.M., to James Benjamin and Minnie Killian Lewis. Betty attended Southside Elementary School in Arlington, Texas, and graduated from Arlington High School in 1947.

She attended Arlington State College before marrying George Purvine and moving to Oregon in 1949. They were later divorced, and she married David “Bud” Frazier on Aug. 23, 1970, in Junction City.

During her life, she held various positions at Oregon State University from 1960 to 1966, the Department of the Interior in Roseburg from February of 1966 to 1970 and the Department of Agriculture Bureau of Land Management from January of 1970 until April of 1979, when she retired.

She and Bud spent the ensuing years traveling the United States in their fifth-wheel before settling for a few years in Bullhead City, Ariz., and then in 2005 moved to Medford.

Betty was previously a member of the Corvallis Riding Club, was loved by many special people in many areas of the country and especially enjoyed times spent with family and friends or in her garden.

She also enjoyed sewing, gardening, traveling and crafts.

She is survived by her husband, David S. “Bud” Frazier of Medford; sons Jim Purvine and wife Rene of Eugene, and Rick Purvine of Roseburg; daughters Marva Keefer and husband Dale of Beaverton; Sandee Larson and husband Norm of Helena, Mont., and Linda Hayter and husband Glenn of West Linn; eight grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Jimmie Harris.

A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 6, at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Medford, where she was a member.
