YAMHILL - Keith Fahkoury scored on runs of 20 and 2 yards and Dan Haynes threw two touchdown passes on Friday night to pace Philomath High’s 35-6 victory over Yamhill-Carlton in a nonleague football game.
The Warriors led 15-0 at halftime and then clamped down defensively after the Tigers drew within 15-6 in the third quarter. PHS (2-0) scored the final three touchdowns to pull away.
Haynes’ scoring passes were 28 yards to Logan Stevens and 25 yards to Henry Vaughn. Joseph Harman scored PHS’s final TD on an 11-yard run.
Individual statistics were not available but PHS coach Troy Muir credited Fahkoury and Trevor Motter for evenly splitting the Warriors’ effective running game.
“We did a good job of controlling the line of scrimmage and ran the ball well,” he said.
“Defensively we really stepped up and shut them down. We held them scoreless in the first half, let up and let them throw the ball in the third quarter and then pinned them back again. They couldn’t run the ball at all against us.”
PHS plays at Pleasant Hill next Friday.
“We’re definitely starting to click a little more offensively and on defense we’re tightening the screws and gaining the confidence we’ve lacked for two years here,” Muir said.
