Oregon Scholastic Chess All Stars
Corvallis residents Ian Dickson, Isaac Mcevoy, Calvin Parnon, Lance Roy, Crystal Still, Leonardo Sun, Maxwell Sun and Yang Yan were named Oregon Scholastic Chess Federation All Stars and were asked to play at the All Stars Invitational Chess Tournament on Sept. 13 at Albany Middle School. Students compete in tournaments throughout the year and players with the highest rating, by grade, are invited to the All Stars Invitational Event. The All Star players represent the top 10 percent in Oregon and generally fall in the top 25 percent or better for the entire Pacific Northwest.
College honor roll
Washington State University, Pullman, Wash. — Corvallis resident Thomas Arthur Haig was named to the President’s Honor Roll for the summer 2008 semester. To be eligible for WSU’s President’s Honor Roll, an undergraduate student must earn a grade point average of 3.75 in at least nine graded hours in a single term at WSU or a GPA of 3.50 based on at least 15 cumulative hours of graded work.
Duncombe receives scholarship
American University, Washington, D.C. — Mitchell Duncombe, a Corvallis resident, is the recipient of the American University Dean’s Scholarship. He began as a freshman at the university in August.
