Candidate forum invitation

Join the Gazette-Times’ editorial board Thursday, Oct. 2, at 7 p.m. at the Corvallis-Benton County Public Library, 645 N.W. Monroe Ave., for a session featuring the Ward 1 and Ward 6 candidates for the Corvallis City Council.

Traditionally, the G-T’s editorial board interviews local candidates for office before writing endorsement editorials. This year, to the extent possible, we’re going to try to make those interviews open to the public.

The Ward 1 race features incumbent Bill York facing off against Mark O’Brien. The Ward 6 race pits John Detweiler against Joel Hirsch.

The G-T still is looking for dates for public interviews with Ward 2 and Ward 5 candidates, in addition to the race for Benton County commissioner.

During Thursday’s meeting, members of the

G-T’s editorial board will ask questions for each candidate to answer. Questions from the audience will be solicited as well. The session should last about 90 minutes.

For more information about the event, call Mike McInally, the G-T’s publisher, at 758-9502.
