Swimmers lose

opener at Stanford

GAZETTE-TIMES

PALO ALTO, Calif. — The Oregon State swim team lost 151-102 to Stanford on Friday in its season opener.

“They swam much better than they did a week ago” at their intrasquad meet, coach Larry Liebowitz said of the Beavers.

“We are starting to see some good signs with all of the hard work they have put in. I think we will continue and be better next week,” at the Oct. 17 University of the Pacific Invitational in Stockton, Calif.

The OSU foursome of Jenni Dole, Corrinne Burrow, Saori Haruguchi and Anna Crandall won the 200 medley relay in 3:51.39 seconds.

Haruguchi won the 100 butterfly in 56.29 and Rachael Wahl won the 400 individual medley in 4:32.58.

Kayla Rawlings and Wahl were 3-4 in the 200 butterfly. Crandall took second in the 100 freestyle in 52.52 and third in the 50 freestyle in 24.75.

“Anna is doing a really good job,” Liebowitz said. “She has been training really hard and she has a stronger attitude this year.”

Crandall, Haruguchi, Rawlings and Crescent Valley graduate Brittney Iverson won the 400 freestyle relay in 3:32.43.
