Lecture a part of climate-change debate

Jay Celorie, global program manager for supply chain energy at Hewlett-Packard Co., and John Matthews, climate change adaptation specialist with the World Wildlife Fund, will talk about climate change and corporate response from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday in a College of Business Sustainability Lecture at OSU.

The event will be held in the Austin Auditorium inside the LaSells Stewart Center, 26th Street and Western Boulevard.

The free lecture is part of the HP-WWF Climate Change Roadshow, which is an attempt to bring individuals from across the country into the climate-change debate.

Celorie, who works at HP’s Corvallis campus, will discuss what the company is doing in response to climate change.

Matthews will describe World Wildlife Fund’s work around the world, with a strong focus on its freshwater-adaptation projects.

Celorie joined HP in 1998 after working as a senior project manager at CH2M Hill, where he directed environmental-remediation projects.

He now directs programs at HP to increase energy efficiency within the supply chain, and he works with suppliers to reduce the company’s carbon footprint.

For example, the company’s Halo “telepresence” system could enable businesses to cut back on travel through the use of its virtual conferencing technology.

And he’ll discuss other HP goals, such as reducing the absolute energy consumption of its facilities 16 percent from 2005 levels by 2010, and doubling the company’s global purchases of renewable power by 2012.
