First date leads to double DUIIs

Gazette-Times

Police reports indicate that Philomath couple Levi Daniel Rariden, 24, and Destiny Damewood, 22, had an eventful first date the night of Nov. 9.

The evening started at 8:55 p.m. when Damewood reportedly crashed her car into a fence post and then landed in a ditch at the corner of Fern Road and Southwest Airport Avenue.

Rariden picked her up and drove her off.

The couple returned to the intersection just as sheriff’s deputies were interviewing witnesses. One of the witnesses identified Damewood as the driver of the crashed vehicle.

Damewood was arrested for DUII and reckless driving as well as an additional charge for operating an unsafe vehicle. A breathalizer test indicated that her blood-alcohol level was 0.15 percent.

Deputies at the scene asked Rariden also to take a breath test. Although he refused a breath test, deputies at the scene determined he was “extremely intoxicated” and also arrested him for DUII and reckless driving.

According to the report, Damewood told deputies that she and Rariden were on their first date.
