Arbogast sixth at World 100K
Meghan Arbogast of Corvallis placed sixth in the world and helped lead the U.S. women’s team to second place behind Russia at the World 100K Ultramarathon Championships in Tarquinia, Italy, on Nov. 8. Arbogast’s time was 7 hours, 52 minutes or about 7:36 per mile for more than 62 miles.
The 100K asphalt circuit was a mainly flat racecourse (with some alternating hills and uphills finish in Tarquinia). The first 37K was on a straightway from Tuscania to Tarquinia, with the following 56K run on a 14K circuit, which was repeated four times. The final part, composed of about 7K, led to the finish in Tarquinia at the Piazza Cavour.
Corvallis Pride offer free camps
The Corvallis Pride women’s tackle football team will hold two free skills camps for women interested in learning how to play tackle football. The first camp is Sunday at the University of Oregon and the second is Nov. 23 at Oregon State.
The free camp is open to all women over the age of 18. Coaches will teach the fundamentals of how to block, run routes, carry the football, pass and catch, tackle and other basic skills. The camp is designed to introduce women to the sport of tackle football and help the team find additional players for their 2009 season.
The UO camp will begin at 10 a.m. and will be held on the turf field adjacent to Hayward Field. The OSU camp will be at the Truax Indoor Center and will begin at noon.
The Pride are entering their eighth season, earning playoff berths in six of those seasons. The team enjoyed a trip to the national final four in 2004.The Pride play in the spring with practices beginning in January.
OAB tournaments
Oregon Amateur Basketball will be running eight tournaments in Corvallis, Albany and Lebanon during the 2008-09 season. All games will be played at Corvallis, Albany and Lebanon-area high schools. The dates are: Nov. 22-23; Dec. 20-21; Dec. 27; Dec. 28; Jan. 3-4; Jan. 24-25; Jan. 31 and Feb. 7-8.
The two-day touranments are $220 and come with a four-game guarantee. The Jan. 31 tournament is $175 and has a three-game guarantee. Discounts are available for multiple entries. Divisons are available for boys and girls in the fifth, sixth, seventh and eighth grades.

Kidspirit race, clinic
The Oregon State Kidspirit program is sponsoring a 1K/5K road race at OSU on Dec. 7 and a youth lacross clinic on Nov. 22, also at OSU.
The road races benefit the Girls on the Run program. They start at 9 a.m. in front of Reser Stadium, and end on the 50-yard line. Registration is $10 without a shirt and $15 with a shirt by Nov. 30, and higher thereafter. Race-day registration for $15 is also available.
The lacrosse clinic is from 1-3 p.m. at Reser Stadium and is open to boys and girls in grades 3-8. Registration is $5 and begins at 12:30 p.m.
