Updates available on Web about injured woman

A blog has been set up for people who want information on a Corvallis woman who remains in a coma after being struck by a car Nov. 8.

The family of Julia Penn Delacruz, 35, regularly updates the blog at http://patty-julia.blogspot.com.

A lot of the regulars Delacruz knew through her job at Elmer’s Restaurant on Northwest Ninth Street appreciate the blog, said restaurant manager Luis Perez. They’re anxious for news about the popular waitress, he said. “People ask about her every day.”

Unfortunately, he said, there isn’t much to report. She remains in a coma after having surgery on an aneurysm late last week, Perez said. Surgery on her pelvis has been scheduled. Her physicians at Oregon Health & Science University in Portland are hoping she will come out of the coma soon, he said.

Her family remains at her side at the hospital, and is unavailable to comment on her condition. That’s the main reason they set up the blog, Perez said. They also established an account at Wells Fargo for anyone who would like to make contributions toward Delacruz’s medical bills. The account number is 9194504784.

Delacruz was walking to her second job at El Sol de Mexico — crossing Circle Boulevard just east of Kings Boulevard — at 8:52 p.m. when she was struck by a car. Police identified the driver of the car as Constance Ash, 82, of Corvallis.

Benton County District Attorney John Haroldson said the accident remains under investigation.
