Knights sign Clontz, Struck for 2009

The Corvallis Knights of the West Coast League have signed Corvallis High graduate Bill Clontz, a team veteran, and left-handed pitcher Nick Struck for the 2009 season.

An outfielder/infielder who plays at Western Oregon, Clontz will be the first four-year player in franchise history. He earned second-team All-WCCBL honors in 2008, and started in the WCCBL All-Star Game for the West. He hit .267 and was second on the team with 54 hits and 24 RBIs.

Struck is a freshman at Mt. Hood Comunity College who was the 2008 Three Rivers League Pitcher of the Year as a senior at Clackamas High School.

Parks & Rec basketball

The Corvallis Parks & Recreation Department is registering players for its youth basketball program, which is open to players in grades K-8. The program runs from January through March; teams practice once a week and games are on Saturdays.

Corvallis team playing for title

The Corvallis Raiders Pop Warner football team will play the West Albany Bulldogs at 3 p.m. Sunday at Autzen Stadium in the Junior Division state-championship game. The Senior Division Corvallis Raiders will play South Albany at 8 p.m. Saturday in that division’s third-place game.

Civil War golf tournament

MONROE — Diamond Woods Golf Course will host the fifth annual Civil War Golf Tournament on Sunday to benefit the Children’s Miracle Network.

The entry fee is $55 and registration is available at the pro shop or online at www.diamondwoods.com.

The tournament format is an orange (Beavers)/yellow (Ducks) ball scramble. The winning side is determined by adding up the four-person team scores for a team total.

CAT swimmers receive accolades

Oregon Swimming will honor 19 swimmers from the Corvallis Aquatic Team on Sunday during a ceremony for those who posted one of the five fastest times in each event during the past short course and long course seasons. The ceremony will be held in Canby.

CAT swimmers receiving the honor are: Alex Brookes, Allison Wells, Annette Marinello, Brandon Shreeve, Caroline Wells, Erin Schoper, Hali Barkdoll, Ian Leeming, Jacob Pebley, Jessie James, Johnny Beamer, Karo Scheibert, Kelly Shreeve, Lauren Allen, Mailene Leslie, Nick Bartoli, Sloan Storie, Jordan Iverson and Veronica Twenge.

Graff named to NW Conference team

Nikki Graff, a 2005 Crescent Valley graduate, has been named the Northwest Conference women’s soccer defensive player of the year.

A senior at the University of Puget Sound in Tacoma, Graff helped lead the Loggers to a 16-0-0 record this season and was a first-team all-conference selection.

Free skills camp for women’s football

The Corvallis Pride women’s tackle football team will conduct a free skills camps for women interested in learning how to play tackle football.

The camp is Sunday at Oregon State University at the Truax Indoor Center. It is open to all women over the age of 18 who have current health insurance.

No experience is necessary.
