WHO’S HOT
Justin Kahut
The sophomore place-kicker won the game with a 24-yard field in the final seconds. That atoned for a missed extra point on the previous possession that would have tied the game.
WHO’S NOT
Jacquizz Rodgers
The workhorse RB sprained an AC joint in his left shoulder on the second drive of the first quarter, and didn’t return to the game. This is the first injury for him. His health has been a concern with how much pounding the little back would take.
TURNING POINT
Canfield to Strougher
The Beavers were put in position for the winning field goal when QB Sean Canfield found WR Sammie Stroughter deep on the left side for a 47-yard pass. That broke Arizona’s will.
KEY STAT
1
After 11 games in a season filled with ups and down, and many wild games, the opportunity for the Rose Bowl comes down to one game. If the Beavers win the Civil War next week they are in.
TRENDS
The Beavers have won six straight games, and eight of the last nine. The six-game streak is the longest within a season with Mike Riley as a coach. There have been two five-game streaks over the course of two seasons.
NO MOEVAO
Starting QB Lyle Moevao couldn’t play due to his lingering shouldering injury suffered Nov. 1 against Arizona State. After missing a game, he played one but couldn’t practice this week. Sean Canfield took his place and is 2-0 as a starter this season. Riley said Moevao warmed up well before the game, but he didn’t want to play him with little to no practice during the week. However, Moevao could return this week.
SACK NUMBERS
Senior DE Victor Butler took over sole possession of second place on OSU’s career sack list. He had 1.5 against the Wildcats to give him 21.
DROUGHT ENDS
The Arizona touchdown pass by QB Willie Tuitama to TE Rob Gronkowski at the end of the third quarter was the first offensive TD by the Wildcats against the Beavers since the third quarter of the 2005 game.
BIG LEG
Kahut hit a 47-yard field goal at the end of the first half. That was a career-long. He is 14-for-20 on field goals this season.
THE SERIES
The Beavers have won nine of the last 10 games against the Wildcats. They have also won four straight in Tucson.
