T. Gerding Construction Company has hired Gene Doll as a project manager. Doll has degrees in construction engineering management from Oregon State University as well as microelectronic technology from Portland Community College, and has 17 years experience in institutional and commercial construction.
Jay E. Schaake, financial advisor, has joined the team at Northwest Financial Group, LLC in Corvallis. Schaake has been a financial advisor with Smith Barney for the past 10 years. Before becoming a financial advisor, Schaake was an assistant football coach at Oregon State University.
Officers and directors
Christopher Cebra, an Oregon State University faculty member specializing in large animal veterinary care, has been named head of the department of clinical sciences in OSU’s College of Veterinary Medicine.
Cebra is a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania’s School of Veterinary Medicine, where he earned his D.V.M. as well as bachelor’s and master’s degrees. He also has a second master’s degree from Colorado State University.
Philomath Chamber of Commerce recently elected new board members. They are Vynn Berg of Mid-Valley Dental Arts, Doug Davis of Bear Creek Home Medical and Hans Neukomm of Philomath Auto Parts.
J. Michael Shaughnessy has been elected as president for the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics, a national organization for mathematics teachers at all levels. Shaughnessy has been a professor of mathematics and statistics at Portland State University since 1993. Prior to that he was a professor of mathematics at Oregon State University since 1976.

Wine Spectator Magazine has selected Cardwell Hill Cellars 2006 Pinot Noir as one of their Top 100 Wines for 2008. Wine Spectator tastes and ranks more than 14,000 wines from all global wine producing areas each year. They have recently released their top 100 selections for 2008, and Cardwell Hill Cellars of Philomath was ranked 71.
Scott Peets, an 18-year veteran of the U.S. Forest Service, has received the agency’s Director’s Award in the annual Rise to the Future fisheries honors. The awards are given each year to those who promote fish and fish habitat.
Peets, a regional employee who works out of the Siuslaw National Forest’s Corvallis office, serves as a liaison to the Oregon plan for salmon and watersheds.
Training and development
Corvallis Tourism has been awarded accreditation from the Destination Marketing Accreditation Program. DMAP is an international accreditation program developed by the Washington, DC-based Destination Marketing Association International. In earning the DMAP accreditation, Corvallis Tourism communicates to their community, buyers, and potential visitors that their organization has attained a significant measure of excellence.
Corvallis Tourism is the official tourism marketing organization for Corvallis and Benton County.
Reinvestment
The Siletz Tribal Charitable Contribution Fund distributed $196,623.50 in contributions to local community organizations recently. This included $12,146 to Eddyville Charter School for the Two Rivers … Two Stories outdoor project for Eddyville and Siletz Valley School students; $2,000 to the Tribal Leadership Forum for the Great Tribal Leaders of Modern Times program; $16,900 to KPTV/KPDX Television for a Native American education and wellness campaign; and $4,250 to the Philomath Police Department for four I-COP digital video units.

Nadine Grzeskowiak, RN, CEN, president of RN On Call, Inc. and Gluten Free RN recently co-presented with Chris Foulke at the Alternatives Mental Health Conference in Buffalo, N.Y. Nadine also hosted a round-table event addressing gluten intolerance and celiac disease at the National Nurses in Business Association Conference.
