Albany street closes for repair

Second Avenue east of downtown Albany will be closed between Jefferson Street and Madison Street SE on Tuesday, Dec. 2 and Wednesday, Dec. 3 while repairs are being made to the Lafayette Street rail crossing.

The condition of the rail crossing has deteriorated and Portland and Western Railroad will demolish the existing crossing and rebuild the track using concrete panels.

A detour route will be posted and will remain in effect overnight. Temporary all-way stop sign control will be placed at Second Avenue/Jefferson Street and Second Avenue/Madison Street intersections. Those who live in the closed area will be allowed access.

The work is being done by Portland and Western Railroad.
