Mark P. Swensen, DDS, has joined the dental practice of Glenn D. Balkins, DMD, at 2222 N.W. Lincoln Ave. Swensen completed his undergraduate studies at Utah State University and received his dental degree from Ohio State University. He completed a residency in general dentistry at Palmetto Health Richland Hospital in Columbia, S.C.

Four Spindrift Cellars wines have been recognized in the Nov. 15 edition of the Wine Enthusiast. The Philomath winery’s 2007 pinot blanc earned an Editor’s Choice and a rating of 91, followed closely by pinot gris with a rating of 90 and a Best Buy selection. Spindrift’s 2006 pinot noir earned an 88 and its syrah was rated 89. Spindrift Cellars is owned by Matt and Tabitha Compton.
Officers & Directors
Friends of the Family Ministries has elected new officers to its board of directors. They are Peggy Collins, chairwoman; Paul Schweitzer, secretary; and Ron Johnson, treasurer. Corvallis resident Jamie Anderson has joined the board as a director. Friends of the Family provides education and counseling services to promote healthy relationships. It has offices in Corvallis and Albany.

Allison McPherson, owner of Corvallis Pilates, has passed the Pilates Method Association national exam and has been awarded the title of Pilates Method Alliance certified instructor. McPherson’s Studio, now in its fourth year of business, has expanded and is now located at 456 S.W. Monroe Ave.
Comings & Goings
Samaritan Hand Therapy Specialists has changed its name to Samaritan Hand & Upper Extremity Therapy and has moved its Albany office to the Samaritan Medical and Diagnostics Center at 400 Hickory Ave. N.W., Suite 302, in North Albany. The clinic, which also has an office in Corvallis, provides hand, wrist, elbow and shoulder rehabilitation services.
The Magic Mirror, 2847 N.W. Grant Ave., is relocating to make way for the expansion of the First Alternative Natural Foods Co-op’s north store. The beauty salon, owned by Marilyn Wybenga, is moving around the corner behind the former Your Green Home store at 2815-C N.W. Grant Ave. The Magic Mirror does pedicures, manicures, airwaves, perms, shampoos and more both onsite and at customers’ homes, nursing homes and the hospital. The salon will reopen in its new location Tuesday.
