GILLETTE, Wyo. — The Crescent Valley girls basketball team lost to perennial North Dakota power Mandan 50-35 on Tuesday at the Energy Classic tournament in Gillette, Wyoming.
Sammie Waite had 15 points for CV, which trailed 30-27 going into the fourth quarter before the Braves broke CV’s press late in the game and pulled awy.
“It was a 3-point game with three minutes to go,” CV coach Kodi Waite said. “They made a steal, got a transition basket to go up five, and we had to start pressing.
“They broke our press pretty easily,” in part because the Raiders were tired from a late game on Monday. “They got four easy transition baskets. They game was a lot closer than the score indicated, it was a tough turnaround from Monday night.”
On Monday night, the Raiders lost 74-39 to host Campbell County, the state runner-up in 2008 and a long-time Wyoming powerhouse. Molly Doran had 12 points, Sammi Waite nine for the Raiders.
CV plays Northgate, Calif., at 9 a.m. today in the seventh-place game.

WILSONVILLE — Soft play in the second half hurt Corvallis in a semifinal loss to Wilsonville night at the Wilsonville Invitational.
CHS (2-2) trailed 20-19 at the half but was then outscored 24-10 in the third quarter.
“We didn’t adjust well to the officiating,” coach Greg Garrison said. “They shot 19 free-throws to our six. We weren’t very physical either and that cost us in the third quarter.”
