Benton officials set to be sworn in Monday

Benton County has scheduled a public ceremony to mark new terms of office for three elected officials.

Circuit Judge Locke Williams will administer oaths of office to Commissioners Annabelle Jaramillo and Jay Dixon and District Attorney John Haroldson at noon Monday in Courtroom 1 on the second floor of the Benton County Courthouse, 120 N.W. Fourth St. A reception will follow in Room 213.

All three begin their new terms in January.

Dixon is entering his third term after previously serving as an elected member of the Corvallis School Board. He had a career in business, law enforcement and government service. He is to serve as board chairman for the coming year, and also chairs the Cascades West Council of Governments. Dixon holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of San Francisco.

Jaramillo also is beginning her third term as a commissioner and will be vice chair. She served as Gov. John Kitzhaber’s citizens’ representative for five years and she also worked as a research botanist for the U.S. Forest Service. She holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees in science from Portland State University.

Haroldson is beginning his first term of elected office after being appointed by Gov. Ted Kulongoski in February 2007. He had served as chief deputy district attorney in Benton County since 2002 and began his prosecution career in 1988 in Linn County. He holds a bachelor’s degree from Central Washington University and a law degree from the University of Oregon.
