Lu Martin, 91, of Corvallis, passed away at Good Samaritan Regional Medical Center on Dec. 29. He was born Oct. 5, 1917, in Milton, Pa., to Luther H. Martin and Maude Arner Martin. He was a graduate of Penn State College and earned his doctorate at Yale University. He worked as a research metallurgist for 39 years at General Electric in Schenectady, N.Y.
He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Emma Garvin Martin, formerly of Scotia, N.Y.; son, Dr. James R. Martin and his wife Heidi of Basel, Switzerland; and daughters, Barbara Glover and Jeannie Sullivan and her husband, Russell, of Corvallis, and Sally Sorenson and her husband, Ed, of La Pine. He is also survived by three granddaughters, two grandsons and three great-grandsons. The family is holding a private memorial service.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that memorial donations in memory of Lu Martin be made to the Grace Center at 980 N.W. Spruce Ave., Corvallis, OR 97330.
